CUPE 1645 Information for Distribution to Members - March 7, 2002
Developments
The Union (Karin Richardson & Elaine Eldon) have a tentative list of lay off positions.
The list is NOT confirmed, changes due to volunteer retirements, etc.
How will it happen
The Union has booked the Scalplock Room for Union members on the 18th.
The Union will be informed of the process for the 18th.
There will be an all staff meeting on the 18th (TBA).
Response Plan
The Unions internal message will be consistent with our external message:
"The museum supplies the community with services that touch peoples lives and those services are in jeopardy due to the decisions made by the museum's administration."
Pam Beattie (CUPE Communictions) is investigating access to monies from CUPE Alberta and/or CUPE National to fund public awareness campaign (e.g. leaflet, postcard with tear off to mail to MLA or Glenbow board?, petition, ads, street theatre)

Developing a key message
Developing strategy for the media release
Determine who will be media spokesperson
Determine CUPE Alberta Exec member as support spokesperson
Implementing a broad awareness campaign
Why a broad campaign?
- targets MLAs, MPs, City Councillors
- reaches specific communities - galleries, museums, artists, collectors, researchers, etc.
- increases public awareness and rallies public support
Spirit Committee
Black ribbons and mini picket signs are available from Susan Barrett (on switchboard until March 15).
40 members went to the Bear & Kilt for refreshments and fellowhship on March 7th.
Board Presentation Committee
A submission will be made to the Board on March 14th.
An Board presentation will be requested as soon as possible following information on the 18th (strongly recommendation by CUPE rep Elaine Eldon)
