CUPE 1645 Information for Distribution to Members - March 26, 2002
External Communications/Public Awareness Committee (EXCOM)
- 15 people are collecting signatures for petitions. See Rory if you would like copies.
A petition to the board may not be our most effective option. We will probably redirect our efforts to a government petition.
- Stakeholders supplied great info on the impact of the cuts on all major areas at Glenbow. CUPE reps are using this in a coherent media release.
- 1645's position was well covered in Herald and the Sun articles. The best coverage appeared in the Sun. Our CUPE Rep was interviewed on the radio; Karin was interviewed on CBC TV.
- the editorial was submitted but hasn't been printed yet. We may submit it elsewhere, perhaps the Globe.
- Drafting a letter to be sent to all the MLAs. (Requires membership approval for content and to activate the letter writing campaign). PHASE II --- letters for the MPs, city councillors and other stakeholder groups such as collectors groups, research groups, other museums etc.
***HELP NEEDED: A few volunteers are helping with stuffing and labelling these, but as much help as possible will be needed.
- Dennis gave a 15 minute presentation to 400 CUPE conference delegates on Mar. 22. As a result $3,500 was donated to our local from other locals, CUPE Alberta and CUPE National! The money will likely be used for the public awareness campaign.
- Anyone with ideas for the public awareness campaign is welcome to submit them to Rory.
